Chrystal Belle

Miss Chrystal was born on April 5th and began performing as a classical soprano at a very young age. This accomplished singer, actress, dancer, writer and piano-tinkler has a fondness of the arts that only continues to blossom. She was first introduced to jazz music while in middle school and instantly fell in love. Since then, shes been inspired to re-create the style and panache of her 1930s & 40s idols - being most influenced by Ella Fitzgerald and Mel Torme. Miss Chrystal is keen on being the very best at what she does and reveals, "I was inspired to form The Sugar Snaps from a time when music was charming and romantic, polished and honest."

Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present to you,

The Sugar Snaps!

A meeting of youthful exuberance and vintage spirit - the Sugar Snaps bring classic jazz standards back from the old trunks in your grandparents attic and make them fresh again. As they cleverly blend flavors of then & now to create simple yet sophisticated melodies, you'll soon be tapping your feet and humming along to timeless songs from the past. The Sugar Snaps was founded by and features the vocal stylings of Miss Chrystal Belle and is accompanied by Matthew Callaway on guitar (with occasional special guest guitarists when Mr. Callaway is unavailable). Each member of this delightful collection has individually performed at some of the hippest, most fashionable and fun events around the Great Lakes region.

Biography

Matthew Callaway

Born on January 2nd, Matt Callaway grew up with an interest for music that didn't truly develop until his early teens when he first picked up the guitar. Playing trombone in the school band was his first musical ambition, but didn't deliver the same kind of excitement and fulfillment that the axe was soon to do. As poignantly stated after Matts impromptu jam session by renown jazz guitarist Mike Stern (while in town for the Detroit International Jazzfest), some day this kid will be a great guitar player!" Currently finishing his degree in Jazz Studies at Wayne State University, his path is now clear to a world of endless possibilities in music.

Appearing now at occasions ranging from cocktail mixers to wedding receptions and dinner parties to corporate functions, festivals and art exhibits - this swingin duo is fully poised to bring their repertoire of rich jazz standards and medleys to audiences everywhere. We invite you to close your eyes, open your ears and imagine being fireside at a swanky lounge when a shot of gin was only 5 cents.

Grab a drink and prepare for a serving of The Sugar Snaps because these two peas in a pod will be sprouting up in your town soon!
